Yardsale had outgrown their systems as they moved to the next chapter of the brand. We partnered together to refresh the brand identity and deliver a headless Shopify digital experience geared towards high growth. Enabling Yardsale to expand beyond its ski roots into new product categories, and unlock customers in new territories around the world.
Yardsale 2.0
Since being founded by lifelong skiers, Cristina and Kelly, back in 2023 the outdoor brand has had a meteoric rise with viral TikTok videos helping the startup to sales growth of 800% in its first year alone. Boosted by $250,000 of investment after an appearance on the US TV show, Shark Tank.
In a short time, the product line has expanded beyond ski, the community has grown, and the vision for the brand has broadened. We worked with the founders to refresh the brand identity and encourage more people to experience the magic of the long weekend.
Yardsale isn’t a traditional outdoor brand striving to be the fastest on the mountain. Instead, the brand is working to inspire everyday people to get outside and explore the world. Using clever, well-designed gear to make the most of this time outside.
We took inspiration from the nostalgia of the brand’s favourite group trips, and film photos you’d find in your family’s basement. Reminiscing about the small things like friends on a powder day, pocket snacks, backpack beers, and trail naps. With a new “Y” marque inspired by fresh turns on skis and dusty switchbacks on foot.
Story led commerce.
Conversion is king. Although often websites can be too focused on shop rather than storytelling. Missing the feel of the brand in layouts. With product pages struggling with limited ability to add depth on the backstory, showcase the craft behind the products, and move the conversation beyond commerce.
To tell these stories we used a design system of modular components (think Lego) that are flexible, robust, on-brand and easy-to-maintain. This will serve as a kit of parts to curate engaging experiences suitable for every use-case. Whether that be through manual curation of page layouts, or automatically generated with personalisation tools. A concept you could call, “Systems, not Sites.” It enables every page on the website to become an engaging landing page seamlessly blending content and commerce. While responding equally quickly to change as we learn more about customer behaviour from every interaction.
Customise clever gear.
Find the products you love, personalise them to your vibe. Yardsale were ahead of the market in offering customisable ski poles. We refined the personalisation process for customers. Solving UX challenges, improving the performance of the tool, and enabling the system to scale to new product categories. While solving inventory management challenges in the backend to simplify the picking process for staff.
